The Sorting Quiz

The sorting quiz is often the first step when new users join the server. Before you have even really looked around, you are greated by Professor Oak.

To pick your name you need to enter in a name that is appropriate for the server. It must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Not on the banned list of names
  • Only contain Alphabetical characters
  • Be more than 2 characters and less than 13 characters long
  • Have no space in the name
  • Have no underscore in the name

Reasons for why something might be banned from being a name are:

  • Inappropriate words
  • Last names from popular series
  • Names commonly accidentally typed in when starting
  • Names that have been used too frequently on the server

Changing your name later in the game will cost an in-game currency of 100 Gambits for one name, or 160 Gambits for both names to be changed.

If you’re still unsorted, you can request one free rename for your first name from an owner, or make a ticket on the discord before sorting, and we will see that it’s resolved. Some exceptions do apply to this.

The next thing the quiz will ask you is if you are a “Witch”, “Wizard”, or “Wix”.

For the intents and purposes of our server the following definitions apply

Witch : Someone who views themselves of being more feminine in nature.

Wizard : Someone who views themselves as more masculine in nature

Wix : Someone who views themselves as not fitting either of the above criteria or is just uncertain.

Changing your gender is a free change. It can be done on request from a co-owner. The only thing we ask is not to make it a frequent occurance. We are happy to change it, but we don’t want to be changing it daily. However, it’s important to us that everyone feel comfortable with the gender listed.

The next four questions are not used to sort you. Rather, they are used to establish one of the 16 personality types, also known as Myers-Brigg. While it doesn’t really matter which personality type you land in, this is sometimes used as a mechanic to differentiate people beyond housing to give a slightly more unique experience. Each question decides which letter of the Myers-Brigg traits you would fall into. It’s not deterministic of the actual test, but it will help us make the experience on Knockturn more unique.

If you don’t like the personality you have been sorted to

You cannot change this trait, but it does not define your entire existance on Knockturn so we don’t see a need for this to be altered later.

The next seven questions are used to sort you into your Knockturn Academy house. Each question has four answers, each being assigned to a specific house at Knockturn Academy.

The houses are as follows, their traits are not complete this is just an example, and also not everyone in these houses will fit these specific traits:

  • Fenixfyre — Noted for their proficiency at anything competitive. They frequently participate in sporting events of all kinds, any type of competitive event or otherwise.
  • Melismour — A chill house with friendly players who tend to work together, they are most likely to be welcoming and accepting of people
  • Celestine — A group that is often seen being overly competitive with doing homework and attempting to win the house cup. They are often the people who are trying to attend classes the most.
  • Serpentine — This group tends to be the most likely to prank people or do stuff they deem fun. They are a very exclusive group, often trying to help each other advance but not including people of other houses occasionally.

Regardless of which house you land in, you will be accepted and there are nice people in every house!

If you don’t like the house you are sorted to

After you reach year two you are allowed one transfer to another house. This is at no cost, but once you have transferred there is no take-backs.

The ending of the quiz will give you up to three chance to pick a last name. Once you pass up on a name, you will be given another. The last name is the name you’re stuck with, so gamble wisely.

The last names are mostly random, each last name in our database has a chance, but if the last name has a house bias, you have a 5-20% higher chance of getting that as a last name suggestion. You can still receive any name in the database regardless of your sorted house.

While you will always be part of the family you get assigned, you are allowed to change your last name either to custom last name or you can ask to join another family with a sponsor from someone who has that last name currently. Last name changes are 100 Gambits for just the last name of 160 Gambits To change first and last name.
